Look where Pune's Mayor takes her car

Submitted by Vishal Kudchadkar

Never mind the rule book of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). It says that cars allotted to office-bearers have to stay within municipal limits, but the truth is they have been going beyond limits against rules seeking solace at tourist resorts and pilgrim centres. Using the MRTI for the second time on the use (misuse?) of official cars by elected representatives, Maj Gen SCN Jatar (retd), president of Nagrik Chetna Manch, has procured shocking details of logbook entries on innumerable outstation trips made by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman, Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the House in their official cars. The total expenditure on cars was a staggeering Rs 51,02,235 from January 1 to October 31, 2003. As for the break-up of official and private use, the PIO was evasive. But going by the over half-a-crore rupees bill in 10 months, it was either that the official cars were making too many outstation trips or that the elected representatives were travelling close to 400 km per day within city limits. The log book entries on outstation trips made by citys civic chiefs led to shocking revelations. Official cars were used to visit places like Mahabaleshwar, Lonavla, Khandala, Jalna, Dhule, Yavatmal and even Nipani in Karnataka. The Mayors performance takes the cake. According to the log book, she pulled off the impossible of being present at two places at the same time. On December 18, the Mayor was at Sangamner in one of her official vehicles and at Alibag in another; on May 31 and June 1, she was at Mumbai and Ahmednagar simultaneously; on September 20, she was at Mahabaleshwar and Nashik at the same time and on December 9, she was in Mumbai and also in Ahmednagar. And now the clincher: The PIO has confirmed no audit has ever been carried out on the use of official vehicles.

An eye opener.Well done, also in the system where first one has to be a small goon then graduate to be a decoit, with a degree obtained in forming a team of the likes enter parliament to be a Ruler and not a representative of the people. This is the condition of our democracy.Mob violence is the trend, where the law of the country is for the masses and not for these politicians, who can do what they feel and when they desire. They are protected with Black cat security, why are they insecure.Misusing public money not just in transport but in electricity, telephone, unauthorized use of Bungalows even when the term expires, there is a long list of their misdeeds.
Are they the Rulers or Kings or our elected representatives? They should be shunned from being voted to represent us(POWER...)

This kind of offcials should be immediately sacked & send to the jail with non-bailable warrant. All the money should be collected with interest. Their faces should be shown in media (both print, electronic, mentioning ghuskhor)

This painstaking investigation and subsequent revelation of shocking misuse of official vehicles is only the tip of the iceberg and needs to be probed further and those found guilty should be booked under law.
